This was the first time that I had photographed a wedding in the beautiful Addington Palace in Surrey, so I was thrilled when Helen and John called me up to discuss their forthcoming wedding at this beautiful location.
As soon as I got home I did some research on this beautiful Grade II listed Palladian Style Mansion and discovered that is situated in over 150 acres of stunning countryside. The venue is available to be hired out exclusively for Weddings as well as Corporate and Private Events. As if that wasn’t more than enough it offer accommodation for your Big Day as well as seating for 150 in the Great Hall for your reception.
The ceremony was held in the Winter Garden which is a bright and airy ceremony with a lovely big glass window at the end that floods the room with natural diffused light that is perfect for photography. Originally The Winter Garden was designed to be a Smoking Saloon for gentlemen (how time’s have changed!), however it was later converted into the Winter Garden as it is now known by architect Archibald Howley. It was an intimate ceremony attended by Helen and John’s closest family and friends. After the ceremony we all headed outside to be greeting by some beautiful sunshine where we took the majority of the photos. Helen and John wanted to pop round to the front of the Palace where just by chance a stunning Austin Martin DB6 was parked and we ‘borrowed’ it for a couple of photos!
The wedding reception was held in the stunning Great Hall. It has a capacity of up to 300 people where you sit amongst and admire silk wall coverings, amazing marble chimney and gaze up at the beautiful French chandeliers.
Helen and John wanted a mix of photography styles, and to have a varied style of prints as possible to celebrate their day. Helen and John asked me to concentrate on reportage style photography, shooting each moment of their big day as it occurred. I love reportage style photography because it’s all about seeking out the beauty in every moment, and immortalising those special moments that people will want to look back on in times to come.
